Career Spotlight – August

WELCOME TO OUR CAREER SPOTLIGHT SERIES – AUGUST

This month, we have the pleasure of interviewing one of our very own…. a great contributor and vital part to the Sally Watson Dram Team, Emily!

1. Can you tell me a bit about what you do?

I currently work 2 part time jobs, one as an employment consultant for a mental health specific employment agency, where I support clients in finding (and keeping) employment, including interview techniques and updating very bleak resumes with minimal history. I also work for Sally Watson, as a Career Consultant partnering with clients to create winning applications and provide career guidance and job searching tips.

2. What made you choose this career path?

Working previously alongside employment services, I could see the sense in achievement the Employment Consultants had when finding someone a job. This is something I strive for. Working closely with job seekers is rewarding, particularly clients experiencing mental health challenges. For example, one client whom I found a job for, stopped drinking all together (was an alcoholic) and found a sense of self and reason to live just by having something to go to and feeling a purpose. I also love that working in this industry provides me with the work life balance I need to have financial stability and quality time with my daughter.

3 What do you love most about your job?

I love the team I work in, the inclusiveness and group desire to achieve is heart-warming. The feeling of accomplishment when empowering job seekers to change their lives is such an achievement. I strive off the organisation and administration within the role also. I love to be organised in my everyday life, which support me living the life I want and enjoying time with my young daughter.
